The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a skilled and innovative professional to serve as an IT System Administrator at the Journey level within the Technology Services Division (TSD). This position will provide technical support to the agency’s Infrastructure Server Support unit. The IT System Administrator will perform a broad range of duties using various processes and methods to manage the Enterprise Management Application Services server infrastructure. The successful candidate will contribute to the agency’s commitment to providing a technical infrastructure that is reliable, adaptable, and driven by WSDOT business needs by combining technical skills and knowledge to independently administer and consult on the agency’s server systems.

What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the IT System Administrator – Journey will:

Perform administration of agency cloud based and WSDOT hosted servers supporting essential applications.
Create, manage, and maintain documentation of each server’s use case, users, interdependent systems, security risks, and lifecycle.
Ensure timely patching and updates to operating systems, installed applications, and services in accordance with federal, state, and agency laws/policies.
Troubleshoot reported issues, analyze system logs.
Provide consultation and liaison services between WSDOT business teams and Enterprise Server Support.
Communicate required infrastructure changes, scheduled and unscheduled outages to WSDOT business units.
Liaison between Cyber Security and Business units on mitigated and accepted security risks.
Coordinate business backup needs and schedules.


Qualifications
This is an IT System Administration - Journey position. However, the hiring manager reserves the right to fill the position at a lower level, an IT System Administration - Entry depending on qualifications, providing an opportunity for an individual to gain the required experience on the job as part of a formal “in-training” plan.

To be considered at the Entry level, at the following are required:

Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; or two (2) years of experience in an Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
Two (2) years of experience with the Microsoft Windows Server operating system.


To be considered at the Journey level, the following are required:

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; or an equivalent combination of completed education and experience in an Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
Four (4) years of experience with the Microsoft Windows Server operating system.


It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

Skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, in written and verbal form, with a diverse set of vendors, customers, and peers.
Foundational knowledge of Cloud Hosted Services and Service Providers.
Foundational knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server.
Foundational knowledge of server networking concepts including the TCP/IP protocol and domain naming services (DNS).

This recruitment may also be used to fill additional positions per business needs.
In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position. For union-represented positions, more information on other forms of compensation can be found in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements. Information on other compensation types for non-represented positions can be found in Chapter 357-28 of the Washington Administrative Code.
This position offers flexible/hybrid remote work options.
This position requires the ability to provide after-hours on-call support on a rotational basis.
This position has been approved for in-training. The hiring manager is looking to hire at the IT System Administrator - Journey level, however the in-training plan will allow candidates to be considered as an IT System Administrator - Entry, if not qualified at the highest level. The salaries for each level are:
IT System Administrator – Journey: $83,268 – $111,984 Annually
IT System Administrator – Entry: $68,628 – $92,340 Annually
